We regularly hold courses in fused glass at our studio in Oxford. These are one day courses in the basic techniques of glass fusing and are aimed at those with little or no experience of glass fusing. We now have three courses on offer,
• Fusing with Float Glass - to experiment with inclusions of metals, crushed glass and other materials between layers of glass and see what happens when these are fired at a hot temperature in the kiln (820C) This is lots of fun and often produces quite unexpected results. You can make some small glass panels, hangings, and bowls ready for firing by the end of the day.
• Fusing with a microwave kiln - new course - Yes, you have read it right! There is a very small kiln available now which goes in to a domestic microwave oven and heats up as the microwave is on. Come and have a play with ours. We'll be experiment making very small pieces - ideally suited for making pendants.
• Fused Glass Jewellery Making - glass pendants, earrings etc. We will work with coloured and dichroic glass (dichroic has a wonderful shimmer)with an option to include metals etc. By the end of the day you will have made a number of cabachons (pendants) and pairs of earrings, ready for firing. We can supply you with a small pack of silver plated metal 'bails' for glueing to your pieces as well as a sachet of adhesive for a small extra cost.
